Prompt merit badge registration assists camp directors in ~

  • arranging for merit badge counselors and assistants,

  • planning trailhead events, and

  • purchasing accurate advancement supplies.

AdvanceCamp provides scouts with the opportunity to complete advancement begun at another scout event, to start and complete advancement with the completion of all requirements during the camp, or to begin work on and make a contact with a counselor to complete a merit badge at a later time.

  • A few merit badges may have additional fees, i.e. leatherwork or basketry kits.

  • Scouts going for the Swimming MB or Lifesaving MB must come prepared to complete all phases of water requirements during Saturday clinic, including a change of clothes.

  • All merit badges will be completed using worksheets available at U. S. Scouting Service Website, so print out the worksheets using the links on the MB worksheet page here for each merit badge you plan to work on and bring them along with you to camp.

  • Each troop is to provide scouts with blue cards for merit badge advancement and scouts should bring their merit badge books to camp.

Make sure to send your merit badge signup form early to reserve your sessions and help make the camp experience more enjoyable for all by enabling us to be prepared!

Many Merit Badges has Prerequisites that should be completed before you come to camp.  We have created  a list to help you know if the Merit Badges you are working on have any of these prerequisites.  Click this link to see the list.

Geocaching MB Prerequisites
2011 Advance Camp

To be able to successfully complete your Geocaching MB at Advance Camp 2011 you absolutely must do the three items below BEFORE arriving at Advance Camp.

·        Get an e-mail account.  You will need to have an e-mail account or have free use of your parents/guardian’s account.  You need this to communicate with the Geocaching MB consular and to set up free user account at geocaching.com.  Work with your parent/guardian to set this up.  Good options for free e-mail accounts include yahoo.com, hotmail.com, or gmail.com.
·        Get a Basic Membership (free) at geocaching.com.  Geocaching.com manages the worldwide listing of over 1.4 million geocaches.  You will not be able to complete your Geocaching MB without a membership, and completing some of the requirements at Advance Camp will be more difficult.  More on signing up for you geocaching membership is provided below.

Although not absolutely required, it would be helpful to watch the two videos below.  This will make the MB class at advanced camp go much more easily.  Combined this videos are less than 5-1/2 minutes.  These videos are as follows:

What to bring to Advance Camp for the Geocaching MB

·        Your geocaching.com  username and password (Remember for your own security never share your password with anyone).

·        Walking shoes.  We will walk to find a few caches.
·        GPS unit ONLY if you already have one and know how to use it.  Do not purchase a GPS unit for Advance Camp or do not bring your unit if you don’t already know how to use it.
·        A stamped, self addressed envelope.

What will be provided at for your use at Advance Camp.

·        A stamped envelope addressed to your Geocaching MB consular.

What you will need to do after Advance Camp to complete your Geocaching MB
·       After 30 days, go to geocaching.com and log into your account
·       Either printout the page showing where your trackable has been OR transcribe the (1) list and order of where you geocoin has been and (2) what is the total mileage/kilometers your geocoin has traveled.  If your geocoin didn’t go very far, write that down, sometimes that’s the way it goes.
·       Write one paragraph about what you found interesting about your geocoin’s travels (or lack of travel).
·        Mail your notes, paragraph, and blue card to the Geocaching MB consular in the envelope he provided.  The MB consular will mail your fully signed blue card back to you.
